Kershaw County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a wide range of incidents during the past week, including shootings, major thefts, fraud investigations, and several notable arrests.
Investigators are looking into a shooting incident on Cherokee Boulevard in Elgin after two rounds entered an occupied home, narrowly missing residents inside. Deputies believe the bullets may have ricocheted from a nearby shooting range area and recovered one round as evidence. Another shooting investigation is underway on Dixon Road, where a driver reported his vehicle was fired upon after an encounter outside a local business. Property crimes also kept deputies busy. Thieves stole 710 feet of AT&T internet cable from Old Stagecoach Road, causing more than $7,000 in damage, while investigators continue working several larceny cases involving firearms, lawn equipment, and vandalized vehicles.
Financial scams remain a concern across the county. Deputies investigated nearly $4,000 lost in an immigration services scam, along with multiple cases involving fraudulent bank transactions and stolen payment cards.
Other notable incidents included the recovery of a vehicle reported stolen out of Richland County, the safe recovery of a missing child in Cassatt with the help of a department drone, and several traffic arrests involving impaired and suspended drivers.
