According to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office. a Camden man is facing multiple felony charges after a domestic violence investigation led to a high-risk standoff on White Oak Road Wednesday. 36-year-old Daniel Teddy Payne was taken into custody without incident following a lengthy operation involving the Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team, Camden Police Department, SLED, and Kershaw County Fire Service.
Deputies were called to a home in the 2000 block of White Oak Road after a woman escaped and reported she had been held against her will for several days and repeatedly assaulted. Investigators say Payne allegedly pointed a firearm at the victim, fired a gun inside the residence, and threatened to shoot anyone who approached the home.
Authorities obtained arrest and search warrants, but Payne refused repeated commands to surrender. Deputies forced entry and used an indoor drone to assess the situation before preparing additional tactical measures.
The standoff ended when a family member, contacted through SLED, convinced Payne to surrender. He exited the home with his hands raised and was taken into custody without injury. Payne is charged with kidnapping, pointing and presenting a firearm, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature. He remains in the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
