Kershaw County Sheriff’s deputies investigated several major incidents during the past week, including multiple shooting reports, a suspicious fire, death investigations, and threats against a local medical office.

Deputies responded to two separate shooting incidents in the Elgin area. On Steven Campbell Road, investigators recovered 15 shell casings after reports of 20 to 30 rounds being fired near a residence. In another case, deputies investigated reports of a driver who said someone pointed a handgun at his vehicle on Dry Branch Road before leaving the area. Both investigations remain active.

Fire investigators are also looking into the cause of a blaze that destroyed a vacant home on Humphries Road near Ridgeway. Because the home had no electrical service, the fire has been classified as suspicious.

Deputies also responded to two unrelated death investigations, including an apparent overdose in Lugoff and the death of a young female in Elgin, where investigators recovered THC gummies and a vape device as part of the investigation.

Another high-profile case involved repeated threats made by phone against a local medical office. The caller allegedly threatened to come to the office and shoot employees and patients. Deputies secured the area and searched for the suspect, but no one was injured and the investigation remains ongoing.

Other notable cases included a burglary at a Lugoff home that resulted in assault charges, vandalism and thefts from homes and construction sites, and several arrests on assault, trespassing, and disorderly conduct charges.
