On Wednesday in Camden, a ceremony took place in Broad Street Park celebrating the beginning of construction on the new Haigler Hotel in Camden. Former Camden Mayor Alfred Mae Drakeford, current Camden Mayor Vincent Sheheen and Ben Zeigler with the development group making the hotel happen all spoke about the hotel’s future impact on the city of Camden and surrounding areas. At the end of the ceremony, Zeigler noted that there was not any dirt to move or a ribbon to cut in the park to mark the occasion, but he felt that a Revolutionary War re-enactor firing a musket was appropriate for Camden, so that is how the ceremony ended. We spoke with Mayor Vincent Sheheen after, and HERE is our full conversation.
