Lugoff-Elgin Middle School is excited to announce its upcoming Family STEAM Night, an engaging event designed to inspire and educate students and their families about the exciting world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). The event will take place on November 12 at 5 p.m. at 1244 Hwy 1 S Lugoff, S.C.
Family STEAM Night promises to be a memorable experience with a lineup of distinguished guest speakers, interactive demonstrations, hands-on activities, and delicious local food trucks. The evening will feature:
- Stephanie Hite, Education Coordinator for the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, shares her digital safety and security expertise.
- WTC: Mr. Jones, a PLTW Pre-Engineering Instructor, and his students showcasing innovative engineering projects.
- KC Robotics Team, led by Paul Sullivan, presenting exciting robotics demonstrations.
- Brenda Gardner from SC Regional Workforce offers insights into the manufacturing process.
- Bailee Faile (Civil Engineering K-12 Outreach Chair) and Madison Locklear (Mechanical & Electrical Engineering) discussing their respective fields.
- Gwen Croskey from Central Carolina provides educational insights.
- SPOT the Leopard, adding a fun and interactive element to the evening.
- SIC and PTO are joining to support and enhance the event.
- Leoncia Cruz will explore the theme of Nature as Teacher.
In addition to these exciting presentations, attendees can participate in various hands-on activities sponsored by teachers from all content areas. These activities are designed to engage students and families in interactive and educational experiences that highlight the practical applications of STEAM concepts.
Attendees will also enjoy a variety of delectable treats sold from local food trucks, including:
- The Dog Wrangler – Serving gourmet hot dogs and more.
- D’s Mini Doughnuts – Featuring delicious mini doughnuts for a sweet treat.
“We are thrilled to offer this opportunity for our community to engage with STEAM in such a dynamic and interactive way,” said Rebecca Shackleford, Principal of Lugoff-Elgin Middle School. “Family STEAM Night is a fantastic chance for students and families to learn, explore, and have fun together.”
The event is open to the public, and all are encouraged to attend. Admission is free, and no prior registration is required.
