Lugoff Fire-Rescue has been awarded $1 million in state funding to construct a new firefighter training facility within its district. The funding was approved by the South Carolina General Assembly and signed into law by Governor Henry McMaster in September. Battalion Chief Chris Jones worked with Daniel Roberts and Senator Allen Blackmon to secure the funding.

The facility will be the first in Lugoff Fire-Rescue’s 58-year history capable of conducting live-burn training. Fire Chief Chris Spitzer says the project has been a long-term goal for the department and will expand training opportunities for firefighters throughout Kershaw County and across South Carolina. Spitzer also expressed appreciation to the City of Camden for allowing Lugoff firefighters to use its training facility over the years.
