The Atlanta Braves return home tonight as they open a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds at Truist Park.
Atlanta comes into the series riding plenty of momentum after sweeping the Houston Astros over the weekend. The Braves won Sunday’s finale 4-2 to clinch the National League East and improve to 92-64 on the season. Mike Yastrzemski provided the big blow with a three-run homer as Atlanta secured its seventh division title in the last nine seasons.
The Reds enter tonight’s game at 72-84 after dropping two of three against the Chicago Cubs over the weekend. Cincinnati has been eliminated from postseason contention, while Atlanta will use the final week of the regular season to prepare for another trip to the playoffs.
Rookie right-hander JR Ritchie is scheduled to get the start for Atlanta tonight. Ritchie enters with a 1-3 record and a 5.03 ERA. Cincinnati is expected to counter with left-hander Brandon Williamson, who is 4-4 with a 5.56 ERA. The Braves took two out of three from the Reds when the teams met in Cincinnati back in May.
The series continues Wednesday night with Chris Sale scheduled to face Andrew Abbott, while Thursday’s finale is expected to feature Tyler Mahle against Brady Singer.
