It has been an outstanding fall sports season for Kershaw County athletics, and several local coaches are being recognized for their leadership and success.
Lugoff-Elgin High School had four coaches earn Class 4A Region 4 Coach of the Year honors, while Camden High School’s head football coach also received top recognition in Class 3A Region 4.
Leading the way for the Demons is head football coach Jarvis Littlejohn, who was named the Class 4A Region 4 Football Coach of the Year. Littlejohn guided Lugoff-Elgin to a region championship this season, capped off by a 42-13 victory over Lancaster in the regular-season finale. The Demons also earned a first-round bye in the Class 4A state playoffs.
Joining Littlejohn in receiving Coach of the Year honors are Daniel Boyce in swimming, Casey Stephens in girls golf, and Serria Oliphant in cross country. All three were recognized as Class 4A Region 4 Coaches of the Year for their respective sports.
The four awards highlight a successful fall athletic season at Lugoff-Elgin, with the recognition reflecting the dedication and hard work of the coaches and their student-athletes.
Meanwhile, across the Wateree River, Camden High School head football coach Brian Rimpf was named the Class 3A Region 4 Football Coach of the Year.
Rimpf led the Bulldogs to another region championship this season, finishing the regular season with an impressive 69-27 victory over Airport. Camden also earned a first-round bye in the Class 3A state playoffs.
The recognition of Littlejohn and Rimpf comes as both football programs prepare for postseason action, with hopes of making deep runs toward a state championship.
For Kershaw County, having five coaches recognized among the best in their respective regions is a tremendous accomplishment and a reflection of the strength of high school athletics throughout the county.
Congratulations to all five coaches on earning their well-deserved Region Coach of the Year honors!
