The South Carolina Gamecocks return to action Saturday afternoon when they welcome the 11th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers to Williams-Brice Stadium for a big Southeastern Conference matchup.
South Carolina enters Saturday at 3-3 overall and 1-3 in SEC play, but the Gamecocks will be coming off a bye week and one of their biggest victories of the season. Carolina went on the road in its last outing and knocked off Florida 38-19, with quarterback LaNorris Sellers throwing four touchdown passes.
Tennessee comes to Columbia riding plenty of momentum. The Volunteers improved to 6-1 Saturday with an impressive 26-10 victory over then-No. 6 Alabama at Neyland Stadium. Tennessee’s defense turned in one of its best performances of the season in the win and will now face a South Carolina team that has had an extra week to prepare.
One of the biggest matchups to watch will be Tennessee’s rushing attack against the South Carolina defensive front. Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel praised the Gamecocks’ ability to defend the run and their athleticism on the edges. Tennessee’s ground attack, led by DeSean Bishop, will be looking to establish itself against a Carolina defense that could play a major role in determining Saturday’s outcome.
There is also plenty of recent history between these two programs. The last time Tennessee came to Williams-Brice Stadium was in 2022, when South Carolina stunned the fifth-ranked Volunteers 63-38. Tennessee answered the following season with a 41-20 victory over the Gamecocks in Knoxville.
For South Carolina, Saturday represents another opportunity to build momentum and pick up a major victory in front of the home crowd. For Tennessee, the Volunteers will try to avoid an emotional letdown following their rivalry victory over Alabama and keep themselves in the SEC and College Football Playoff picture.
You can listen to South Carolina take on Tennessee this Saturday starting at 12:30 p.m. on 98.7 FM Carolina Country Classics, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. from Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia.
