The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office investigated several significant cases during the week of August 2, including shootings, burglaries, drug offenses and fraud.
Deputies investigated an August 2 shooting in the Yorkshire Drive area of Lugoff in which a man was reportedly fired upon from a passing vehicle. The victim was not struck, although a nearby home was hit by gunfire. Seven shell casings were recovered, and the case was forwarded to investigators as an attempted murder investigation. Another shooting was reported at an apartment on Wateree Boulevard in Camden, where several rounds struck the residence. No injuries were reported, and the case remains under investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office also investigated burglaries at a business on Jefferson Davis Highway in Camden and a building on Jordan Mill Pond Road in the Kershaw area. The latter property was also vandalized with graffiti. Drug cases during the week included multiple methamphetamine possession arrests and an August 7 narcotics operation on Saxon Place in Camden. KCSO and SLED reported seizing cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, three handguns and more than $14,000 in cash. Timmy Bennett and Robert Bennett were arrested on multiple drug trafficking and firearms charges.
In other cases, deputies investigated the reported fraudulent purchase of a $23,500 commercial truck using an altered cashier’s check and an employee accused of taking approximately $4,000 through fraudulent refund transactions at a Cassatt business. Other reports included theft, forgery, vandalism and property-related investigations.
All charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
