Dominion Energy is being acquired by Florida-based NextEra Energy in a major all-stock merger announced Monday. The deal would create what the companies call the world’s largest regulated electric utility, serving about 10 million customer accounts across Florida, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Dominion Energy serves more than 1.3 million electric and natural gas customers in South Carolina and operates the V.C. Summer Nuclear Station in Fairfield County. The companies say Dominion customers in South Carolina, Virginia and North Carolina would receive part of 2.25 billion dollars in bill credits over two years after the merger closes. Dominion Energy South Carolina will continue operating under its current name, with headquarters remaining in Cayce.
