Topiary Artist Pearl Fryar Dies at 86

A South Carolina artist known around the world for his living sculptures has passed away. Pearl Fryar, creator of the famous Topiary Garden in Bishopville, died April 4th at the age of 86. Fryar, a self-taught artist, transformed his yard into a nationally recognized destination featuring more than 500 handcrafted plant designs. His work drew thousands of visitors each year and was featured in the documentary A Man Named Pearl. Fryar’s message of “Love, Peace, and Goodwill” continues to inspire, as supporters now work to preserve his artistic legacy for future generations.
