At the Tuesday May 21st School Board meeting, members approved Rebecca Shackleford as the new principal of Lugoff-Elgin Middle School. Shackleford replaces Gene Cameron who is retiring at the end of the 2023-2024 school year.
A veteran educator, Shackleford joins KCSD with 17 years of teaching and administration experience. She is currently an assistant principal at Indian Land High School in Lancaster County School District, where she has served for three years. Prior to this, she served as the interim director and assistant director of Rock Hill School District’s Virtual Academy, and previously in the positions of Advanced Studies Program Coordinator, Secondary Instruction Leader, and International Baccalaureate and Language Immersion Coordinator, also in Rock Hill School District. Before moving into administration, Shackleford taught English and History for 10 years in Rock Hill and Fort Mill school districts.
Shackleford earned a Bachelors of Science in Education and a Masters of Educational Leadership from Winthrop University, and a Masters of Education Curriculum and Instruction from Walden University.
