Kershaw County Sheriff’s deputies handled a busy week that included vehicle break-ins, gun-related incidents, vandalism, and a major forgery investigation.
Investigators are searching for a suspect linked to two attempted vehicle break-ins in Lugoff. In one case, a homeowner confronted a man trying door handles before he fled into nearby woods. In another, a suspect entered an unlocked vehicle, grabbed a handgun, threatened the owner, then dropped the weapon while escaping. Deputies used K-9 teams and drones but were unable to locate the suspect.
Deputies also responded to several firearm-related calls, including the arrest of an intoxicated man accused of bringing firearms into a Lugoff bar where weapons were prohibited. In another case, employees reported a man and woman pointed handguns during a confrontation outside a business in Elgin.
Financial crimes also made headlines. Investigators are looking into a forged business check for more than $43,000 that was intercepted before any money was withdrawn from the victim’s account. Deputies also investigated identity theft complaints involving fraudulent credit card activity.
Other notable incidents included the recovery of suspected stolen motorcycle parts and tools hidden in the woods near Cassatt, the recovery of a stolen boat trailer from North Carolina, and multiple damaged mailboxes reported along Whiting Way in Lugoff.
