The South Carolina Department of Public Health has confirmed a raccoon found near Bishopville Highway and Lee Road in Camden has tested positive for rabies. No human exposures have been reported, but two horses were exposed and are now under quarantine. Health officials are urging residents to avoid contact with wild animals and ensure pets are up to date on rabies vaccinations. This marks the first rabies case in Kershaw County this year. Anyone who may have had contact with the animal is asked to call DPH immediately.
