MUSC Health Kershaw Medical Center has once again achieved an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing health care quality and safety in the United States. This achievement marks the third consecutive “A” for the medical center, a reflection of the center’s steadfast commitment to providing safe, high-quality care.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a rigorous assessment, assigning grades from “A” to “F” based on more than 30 indicators of hospital safety. These indicators include rates of medical errors, accidents, injuries, infections and the hospital’s preventive systems, designed to ensure patient well-being. The “A” grade is a mark of excellence, awarded to facilities demonstrating outstanding performance in these critical areas.

The Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Grade is the only national rating that focuses solely on hospital safety, addressing preventable errors, infections and injuries that tragically lead to more than 500 patient deaths each day across the United States. The program is fully transparent, peer-reviewed, and accessible to the public, with grades updated biannually in the fall and spring.
