Four- and five-year-old kindergarten students in the Kershaw County School District will once again begin the school year on a staggered schedule. Under the district’s 2026-2027 school calendar, students with last names A through L will attend on Thursday, July 30, while students with last names M through Z will attend on Friday, July 31. All kindergarten students will begin attending together on Monday, August 3.
District officials say the staggered start helps ease the transition into school, reduces anxiety, and gives teachers time to conduct readiness assessments and build relationships with students and families. The schedule applies to all 4K and 5K students, except those enrolled in preschool special education programs at select elementary schools, who will begin classes on July 30.
