Last week, members of the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office attended the CALEA Conference in Jacksonville, Florida, where they completed the final review and hearing for international accreditation. We are proud to announce that the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office is now officially CALEA Accredited—a first in the agency’s history. KCSO will also retain its South Carolina State Accreditation, making it a Dual Accredited agency.
CALEA—the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc.—is an internationally recognized authority established to enhance the quality of public safety services. Often referred to as the “Gold Standard in Public Safety,” CALEA accreditation is held by fewer than 5% of all law enforcement agencies in the United States.
Law enforcement agencies may fall into one of the following categories:
- Non-Accredited
- State Accredited
- CALEA Accredited (national/international)
- Dual Accredited (both state and CALEA), like KCSO
“To say we are proud would be an understatement,” said Sheriff Lee Boan. “This could not have been achieved without our Accreditation Manager, Sergeant Misty Burroughs, and the support of all our deputies.”
This achievement demonstrates KCSO’s ongoing commitment to excellence, accountability, and providing the highest standard of service to the citizens of Kershaw County.
