Kershaw County residents in several neighborhoods may notice white smoke coming from manholes, vent pipes or other openings beginning August 31st — but county officials say there’s no cause for alarm.
Kershaw County, working with Keefer Engineering, will conduct sewer system smoke testing in the Dovefield, Paces Green and Willow Creek subdivisions through September 4th, weather permitting. The testing is designed to locate potential leaks or defects in sewer lines. Officials say the smoke is non-toxic, non-staining and harmless to people, pets and plants. Residents do not need to be home during testing.
