The Kershaw County School Board took several actions during its latest meeting, beginning with leadership selections. Dr. James Smith was re-elected as board chairman. Shirley Halley was re-elected as vice chair and chaplain, while Ron Blackmon was again appointed chair of the finance committee and Charles King was reappointed as legislative liaison. The board also recognized Camden Police Department School Resource Officer Ryan Anderson on his promotion to sergeant overseeing SROs.

Board member Shirley Halley was honored for 15 years of school board service, placing her among just 32 board members statewide recognized this year for 10 to 15 years of service.

Members adopted the School Board Code of Ethics and received a financial update from CFO Brad Willard, who reported the district is about one million dollars ahead of last year in revenue over expenses as of the end of November. Willard also noted strong participation in student nutrition programs, with 69 percent of students receiving breakfast and 74 percent participating in lunch. The board approved partnerships with Kappa Alpha Psi for a male youth program at Camden High School, Alpha Kappa Alpha for a facility fee waiver, and the Camden Kershaw County NAACP for reduced-fee use of the Woolard Technology Center. The meeting concluded with an executive session regarding employment matters where the board approved Katie Ham as full time Student Activities Director and Jarvis Littlejohn as full time head football coach at Lugoff Elgin High School.
