Kershaw County announced today that their EMS Department has received two new ambulances, which will significantly enhance the ability to serve the community. These ambulances have been in the works for nearly two years. The ambulance manufacturing industry faced considerable supply chain challenges post-COVID, further complicated by Hurricane Helene’s impact on the build site.

The new ambulances are similar to our current fleet, with one key difference: they feature a Ford 550 gasoline chassis, a change from the Dodge 5500 chassis in our older trucks. This adaptation allowed them to receive these vehicles six months sooner than if they had waited for the Dodge version. Given the high mileage and repair needs of our existing fleet, this was a crucial decision. With this addition, Kershaw County EMS can maintain a high standard of service and address the much-needed repairs on their other vehicles.
