The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office investigated a number of significant cases during the week of August 16 through August 21, including drug offenses, thefts, burglaries, scams and other property crimes.
Drug arrests included an August 17 traffic stop in the Elgin area that resulted in a second-offense methamphetamine possession charge. Two days later in Bethune, deputies serving an outstanding narcotics warrant reported finding approximately eight grams of methamphetamine, leading to an additional charge of second-offense possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
Several significant theft cases were also reported. Deputies investigated the theft of a Ford Explorer from the Waters Road area of Bethune, while Kershaw County deputies assisted Richland County investigators in recovering a stolen utility trailer and toolbox from a property in Cassatt.
A grand larceny investigation was opened after electrical wire valued at more than $10,000 was reported stolen from an industrial construction site on Renew Road in Lugoff. The theft reportedly occurred overnight between August 18 and 19. Deputies also investigated a burglary at a storage facility on Jefferson Davis Highway in Camden. Approximately $1,000 worth of property, including an Xbox, collectibles and other belongings, was reported stolen. Surveillance images reportedly showed a suspect leaving the area with suitcases and other property.
Scam reports included a Camden-area resident who reported more than $2,000 in fraudulent credit card activity after receiving a call from someone claiming to represent Discover. Another resident avoided a reported gift-card scam after a caller claiming to represent a loan company requested a $150 Apple gift card. Deputies also documented an attempted business-email scam involving fraudulent requests for payroll and ACH information.
Other reports during the week included vandalism, shoplifting, stolen property and additional property-related investigations.
