Kershaw County School District is proud to announce significant improvements in its 2025 State School Report Card ratings, reflecting the dedication of students, staff, and the community. Earlier today, the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) and the South Carolina Education Oversight Committee (EOC) released the 2025 SC School Report Cards. All South Carolina public schools receive overall report card ratings based on various indicators such as academic achievement, student progress, college and career readiness, and graduation rate.

“We are incredibly proud of the achievement and growth our schools have made. While the South Carolina School Report Cards provide a valuable snapshot of where we stand, it’s important for our community to know that these ratings do not, and cannot, capture the full scope of success happening every day in our classrooms — the moments of innovation, the growth in character, and the personal achievements of our students and staff are what truly define our district,” says KCSD Superintendent Harrison Goodwin.

Kershaw County School District saw two schools achieve the highest rating of Excellent, and several others earn a rating of Good, along with strong indicators of student progress and growth across all levels. Two KCSD schools, Lugoff-Elgin Middle and North Central Elementary, achieved the highest possible rating of Excellent in their 2025 overall ratings. Lugoff-Elgin Middle School jumped two levels from Average to Excellent. Notably, Lugoff-Elgin Middle also went from Below Average to Excellent in the Student Progress indicator.

North Central Elementary School also moved up two levels, achieving an Excellent rating in 2025, improving from Average the previous year. Several other schools earned the impressive rating of Good, including Blaney Elementary, Lugoff Elementary, Pine Tree Hill Elementary, and Lugoff-Elgin High. The State Report Card data showcases high levels of student growth across the district, which is a key focus area. The district demonstrated high growth, with 7 out of 9 elementary schools and 3 out of 4 middle schools scoring Average or above in the crucial Student Progress Indicator.

One elementary school scored Excellent and three scored Good in this area, which is a significant gain from the previous year when no schools scored above average. The Student Progress Indicator also shows high growth with the district’s English Learner (ML) students on SC Ready test scores.

“Our High School Graduation Rates are holding steady or improving, and the district’s College and Career Readiness rates are strong, scoring above the state average. We’re happy to say that all three of our high schools scored Good or Excellent on this indicator,” says Goodwin.

While celebrating these accomplishments, the district is committed to continuous improvement, especially focusing on areas like progress with students with disabilities and strengthening performance in Academic Achievement and Preparing for Success at the high school level. The district’s Plan of Action includes focusing on strong Tier 1 high-quality, classroom instruction and intentionally focusing on each individual student’s growth targets.
