A Columbia man is in custody after a high-speed chase through Kershaw and Richland counties Tuesday afternoon. Deputies say 36-year-old Isaac Timothy Carter refused to stop during a traffic stop on White Pond Road in Elgin, leading officers on a pursuit reaching speeds near 100 miles per hour along I-20. Authorities say Carter struck another vehicle before exiting at Clemson Road and fleeing into a neighborhood. After abandoning the car and running on foot, K9 Sam was deployed and quickly apprehended the suspect. Carter was treated for a dog bite and now faces multiple charges, including drug trafficking and failure to stop for blue lights. Carter is currently held at the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
