South Carolina couldn’t have asked for a much better beginning to the 2026 season as the Gamecocks dominated Kent State from start to finish in a 57-0 victory Saturday afternoon at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Quarterback LaNorris Sellers looked comfortable in the new offense, completing 19 of 23 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. The Gamecocks finished the afternoon with a whopping 645 yards of total offense while holding Kent State to just 179.
Freshman receiver Donovan Murph made a big impact, catching four passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns, including scoring receptions of 29 and 37 yards from Sellers. Jabree Coleman provided the big play on the ground, rushing for 77 yards and two touchdowns on just four carries, highlighted by a 60-yard touchdown run.
South Carolina led 7-0 after the opening quarter before exploding for 22 points in the second to take a 29-0 advantage into halftime. The Gamecocks added two touchdowns in both the third and fourth quarters and never allowed the Golden Flashes to get on the scoreboard.
The shutout gave head coach Shane Beamer a convincing victory to begin his sixth season in Columbia and improved South Carolina to 1-0. The Gamecocks entered the season looking to rebound from a disappointing 2025 campaign, and a 57-point victory was about as strong a first step as they could have hoped for.
South Carolina now turns its attention to the tougher challenges ahead as the Gamecocks look to carry the momentum from an impressive opening-day performance into the rest of the 2026 season.
