A major defense manufacturer in the Midlands is continuing its long partnership with the U.S. military. FN America, which operates a large manufacturing facility in Columbia, has been awarded a $9.9 million contract to supply M240B machine guns to the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. Company officials say the M240 platform has been used by American forces since the late 1970s and remains a key medium machine gun for infantry units. FN America began producing military firearms at its Columbia facility in 1981 and has manufactured millions of firearms for U.S. forces. Company leaders say they are honored to continue supporting American servicemen and women with reliable weapon systems.
