Congressman Ralph Norman visited Camden Copper on Friday February 20th. Camden Copper , located in Kershaw County, is the only North American manufacturer of copper foil. Copper foil is a critical component in printed circuit boards used in everything from cell phones to advanced U.S. defense systems.
The facility was facing closure in 2024 after its Japanese parent company filed for bankruptcy, but it was acquired by American-owned Principal Mineral. That move preserved nearly 50 high-paying manufacturing jobs and kept the nation’s only domestic copper foil supply in operation.
Company leaders say they’ve invested millions in plant improvements and workforce growth, with plans to expand production capacity in 2026. Congressman Norman called the plant a powerful example of American manufacturing supporting both local jobs and national security by strengthening the domestic supply chain for defense and technology systems.
