As South Carolina commemorates the 250th anniversary of the American Revolutionary War, a Camden-based historian is helping bring that history to life for a new generation. South Carolina native Eric Barnes, host of the Historyman Podcast, has released The Rise of Thomas Sumter — a new animated educational series developed through Historyman Comics in partnership with the South Carolina 250th Anniversary Commission.

The series highlights General Thomas Sumter’s fight for freedom during the pivotal year of 1780, focusing on real battles and resistance efforts that took place across the South Carolina backcountry — many of them tied closely to this region’s Revolutionary War past. Designed for classrooms and home education, the animated series blends vivid visuals with historical accuracy, offering local students and lifelong learners a fresh way to connect with the people and places that shaped South Carolina’s role in the Revolution.
