The City of Camden will honor the dedication, sacrifice, and everyday heroism of Camden’s first responders during this year’s annual Arbor Day Ceremony and commemorative tree planting.
This year’s ceremony will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 5, 2025, at City Hall Park, located next to Fire Department Station 1 at 1000 Lyttleton Street. The public is warmly invited to attend and participate in this meaningful tribute. Those planning to join are encouraged to RSVP to Kat Spadacenta at 803-432-2421 x1153 or kspadacenta@camdensc.org.
Each year, the City plants a tree to recognize an individual, organization, or group that has made a significant impact on the community. This year’s honorees were selected for their unwavering service and commitment to keeping Camden residents safe. “Our first responders show up for this community on its best days and its hardest days,” said City Manager Matt DeWitt. “Planting this tree is a small but meaningful way to recognize the work they do that often goes unseen. Their dedication helps Camden stay strong, connected, and moving in the right direction, and we’re grateful for every one of them.” The ceremony will include brief remarks from city leadership, recognition of first responder representatives, and the planting of a commemorative tree chosen for its strength, resilience, and longevity, qualities that mirror the service of Camden’s emergency personnel.
Arbor Day began in Nebraska on April 10, 1872, when more than one million trees were planted as part of the celebration. While many states observe Arbor Day on the last Friday in April, South Carolina celebrates on the first Friday of December to align with the optimal tree-planting season. The City of Camden traditionally observes Arbor Day in late fall, selecting a date that allows the community to gather and reflect as the year winds down. As Camden continues to grow, the City remains committed to honoring those who serve, enhancing our natural spaces, and strengthening the roots that make our community thrive.
