The Camden Bulldogs had to overcome some early mistakes Friday night, but a big second half helped Camden come away from Gilbert with a 48-33 region victory over the Indians.
Camden jumped out to a 20-7 advantage before Gilbert took advantage of several Bulldog mistakes and penalties. The Indians stormed back and grabbed a 26-20 lead at halftime, putting Camden in a hole heading into the locker room.
But the Bulldogs responded in a big way after the break.
Camden scored four touchdowns in the second half, taking control of the game and pulling away for the 15-point victory. Head coach Brian Rimpf called it a big region win and said the experience of falling behind and having to battle back was important for his football team.
Bernard Green turned in a big night for the Bulldogs, rushing for 43 yards and two touchdowns while adding 66 receiving yards and another score. Quarterback Greyson Rimpf threw for 200 yards and two touchdowns to help lead the Camden offense.
The win improves Camden to 5-2 overall and keeps the Bulldogs unbeaten in region play. Camden has now won four of its last five games and has scored at least 48 points in three of those victories.
For Gilbert, the loss snapped a six-game home winning streak dating back to last season and dropped the Indians to 4-2.
The Bulldogs have a bye week this for fall break and will be back in action on October 16th as they host Brookland Cayce. You can listen to all the action starting at 7pm on Kool 102.7.
