Governor Henry McMaster has issued an executive order creating the Governor’s Conservation Commission to help protect South Carolina’s natural resources, wildlife, historic sites, and cultural heritage. The commission will bring together state and local agencies, private landowners, and conservation organizations to coordinate preservation efforts. South Carolina has already protected approximately 3.4 million acres, with a long-term goal of preserving 7 million acres by 2050. The commission will include state officials and up to 26 governor-appointed members serving in an advisory role. The executive order takes effect immediately.
