The Camden Bulldogs came up just short on the road Friday night, falling to the Hilton Head Island Seahawks 27-20 in a matchup between two of South Carolina’s ranked high school football teams.
Hilton Head was able to make enough plays to hold off the Bulldogs, with senior running back Jayvin Risher leading the Seahawks’ ground attack. Risher rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 7.4 yards per carry. Quarterback Derrick Raniszewski added 83 yards through the air while completing eight of his 11 passes.
Camden entered the night coming off back-to-back impressive home victories, defeating Hartsville 49-21 before rolling past A.C. Flora 54-27. But the trip to Hilton Head proved to be a tougher challenge, as the Bulldogs were held to their lowest point total of the season.
The seven-point loss dropped Camden to 3-2 on the season, with both of its defeats coming on the road. The Bulldogs’ other loss was a narrow 28-25 setback at Lugoff-Elgin back on August 28. Hilton Head Island improved to 4-1 with the victory.
Camden will now put the non-region portion of its schedule behind it and turn its attention toward Region 4-AAA play. The Bulldogs return home to historic Zemp Stadium this Friday night to host the Swansea Tigers,and you can listen to all the action starting at 7pm on Kool 102.7 with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
For Camden, Friday night’s trip to the Lowcountry ends in disappointment, but the Bulldogs now get a chance to reset as the games that will determine their region championship hopes begin.
