The Lugoff-Elgin Demons kept their perfect season alive Friday night, going on the road and knocking off previously unbeaten South Aiken 21-7. The victory improved Lugoff-Elgin to 4-0 on the season while handing the Thoroughbreds their first loss.
After a scoreless opening quarter, the Demons took control in the second. Lugoff-Elgin scored twice before halftime to build a 14-0 advantage and carried that two-touchdown lead into the locker room.
South Aiken finally got on the scoreboard in the third quarter, but Lugoff-Elgin answered with another touchdown of its own and kept the Thoroughbreds off the board the rest of the night to secure the 21-7 victory.
Tiyon Fanning turned in another huge performance for the Demons, rushing for 222 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries, averaging better than nine yards per attempt. Quarterback Z. Williams completed 12 of 21 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown as Lugoff-Elgin put together another balanced offensive performance.
The Demon defense also delivered one of its strongest performances of the season, holding a South Aiken team that entered Friday night 4-0 to just seven points. The Thoroughbreds had scored 37 points in a shutout victory over Gilbert the previous week.
With the win, Lugoff-Elgin moves to 4-0 and now turns its attention to another big test. The Demons return home Friday night to host the Wren Hurricanes, who enter the matchup at 4-1 after shutting out Southside Christian 27-0.
