Burglary Arrest, $9,000 Debit Card Fraud and Vehicle Theft Among Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office Reports

The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office responded to a number of thefts, burglaries, traffic offenses and other incidents during the latest reporting period. On August 12, deputies arrested a woman following an incident on Andrew Lane in Lugoff. According to the report, the woman entered a camper on property from which she had previously been trespassed and assaulted another person. She was charged with first-degree burglary, third-degree assault and battery, and trespassing.

Deputies also made multiple alcohol-related traffic arrests. In one case on Highway 1 South, a driver accused of weaving across the roadway was arrested for DUI and later registered a .23 on a breath test.
Several theft and fraud cases were reported. Copper was reportedly cut from an air-conditioning unit at a property on Medfield Drive in Camden, while a Lugoff woman reported more than $2,000 in unauthorized credit card charges. Deputies also investigated two employee theft cases at the Target Distribution Center involving merchandise valued at approximately $1,486 and $1,307. In East Camden, deputies recovered AirPods reported stolen from a Dollar General employee after the devices were tracked. A woman was arrested on a petit larceny charge. A 2013 Dodge Dart was also reported stolen from Wateree Avenue in Camden, while another investigation involved approximately $9,000 allegedly spent using a woman’s debit card while she was incarcerated. During a traffic stop on Highway 601 South, deputies also arrested a driver after learning he was wanted in Wisconsin on a rape warrant.

At Lugoff-Elgin High School, two vape pens found during a K-9 search reportedly tested positive for THC. At Midway Elementary, a small pocket knife was recovered from a first-grade student who reportedly used it to open breakfast.
