An ongoing fire at the MLily production facility in Winnsboro has closed Highway 321 South between Highways 34 and 269. The fire and initial emergency response began Sunday after crews were called to the facility for a fire alarm and chemical smell. Officials say foam material and a conveyor caught fire.
As of 8:30 Monday morning, the fire was contained to a small area but was not yet extinguished. Officials say there is no immediate threat to the public, and the EPA will monitor air quality. That section of Highway 321 is expected to remain closed throughout the day, and drivers are urged to avoid the area.
Crews from all over, including several units from inside Kershaw County responded to the mutual aid request from Fairfield County.
