It was a busy and tragic Fourth of July weekend on Lake Wateree. On Friday afternoon, rescue crews responded to an apparent drowning near White Heron Road in the Liberty Hill community. The Kershaw County Coroner’s Office is now investigating. Then on Saturday, multiple people were injured in a boat crash in the Wateree Creek area. Officials say one boat sank, and victims were transported to EMS personnel by Kershaw County rescuers and South Carolina Department of Natural Resources officers. SCDNR is investigating both incidents and is reminding boaters to wear life jackets, maintain a proper lookout, and always operate safely on the water.
