Kershaw County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a number of significant incidents during the past week, including major thefts, fraud schemes, and the recovery of heavy equipment tied to an ongoing criminal investigation.
Among the most notable cases, deputies located a yellow excavator on Eskie Dixon Road in Elgin that investigators say had been purchased fraudulently from a Myrtle Beach dealership. The case remains under investigation. Several theft reports were also filed, including the theft of a vehicle in Elgin, two electric bicycles in Camden, copper wire stolen from AT&T infrastructure on Old Stagecoach Road, and a handgun taken from a vehicle in Lugoff.
Deputies also responded to multiple fraud and scam complaints. Victims reported losses ranging from hundreds to more than a thousand dollars through online rental scams, banking fraud, identity theft, and sextortion schemes involving social media and dating apps.
In addition, deputies assisted U.S. Marshals in Lugoff with the detention of suspects connected to an ATM theft investigation in Florence County, and made several arrests on warrants and other charges throughout the week.
The incidents remain under investigation by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office.
