The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about an increase in scam calls from people pretending to be deputies. Officials say scammers are spoofing the Sheriff’s Office phone number and even using the names of real deputies to appear legitimate. Residents are reminded that the county will never demand payment for fines, warrants, or fees by phone, text, or email — and will never ask for gift cards, cryptocurrency, or Bitcoin. Anyone receiving a suspicious call should hang up and contact the Sheriff’s Office directly at 803-425-1512 to verify the information. Officials are encouraging residents to share the warning with family, friends, and neighbors to help prevent more scam victims.
