Five people are now facing serious charges following a major drug operation and animal rescue in the Elgin area. According to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, deputies executed a search warrant on Dixon Road, where they seized a large quantity of illegal drugs and discovered dozens of animals living in severe neglect. Investigators say 29 dogs and one pig were removed from the property, with some animals found deceased. The surviving animals are now receiving emergency care.

Authorities arrested Brandon Steven Dixon, Ashley Aquino, Jamaal Jvon Portee, Jerisann Nicole Boozer, and Ronnie Wilson. Charges include possession of a firearm by a felon, distribution and possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine, fentanyl and meth possession offenses, trafficking-related charges, as well as 29 counts of animal cruelty and additional counts tied to failing to properly dispose of deceased animals. Wilson also faces charges of possession with intent to distribute near a school.

Multiple agencies assisted in the investigation. Sheriff Lee Boan says the operation removed dangerous drugs from the streets while rescuing animals from what he called heartbreaking conditions.
