A major drug bust in Camden is being credited with potentially saving thousands of lives. Early this morning, a joint operation involving the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, Camden Police, and SLED led to the seizure of about half a pound of fentanyl during a traffic stop. Authorities say the discovery was made after K-9 Sam alerted officers to the presence of narcotics.

Sheriff Lee Boan praised the teamwork, saying partnerships like this help keep dangerous drugs off local streets. Investigators say the seizure has an estimated street value of more than 30-thousand dollars. According to federal data, just two milligrams of fentanyl can be deadly. Officials say the amount recovered could equal more than 100-thousand potentially lethal doses—far exceeding the population of Kershaw County.

Forty-seven-year-old Angelo Deon Stradford of Lugoff has been arrested and charged with trafficking fentanyl. He is currently being held at the Kershaw County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
