At the end of last school year Pine Tree Hill Elementary was awarded a gardening grant from Clemson Extension, thanks to the dedication of four educators who completed Clemson University’s gardening course to earn approval for the program. Loretta Maricle, Octavia Jackson, Kara Laster, and Sierra Jones led the way last year by bringing this opportunity to our school.
This school year the Bullpups got their hands dirty right away! The first crop of sweet potatoes was planted in May and has already been harvested. Just this week, students planted squash and bush beans, and even more fresh crops are on the way. In early September, the school will receive seeds for carrots, broccoli, and beets to continue expanding the garden.
