According to Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, 911 received a call late on Thursday night about a shooting incident on Boyd Road in Camden. It was reported that a female victim was shot by the father of her children. She was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. The suspect left the scene before deputies arrived.
The suspect’s vehicle description was given over the radio. At 11:52 pm, a deputy located the vehicle on Dicey Creek Road headed toward Highway 1. The driver refused to stop the vehicle. The deputy and a Camden police officer pursued the vehicle north on Highway 1. Speeds reached over 120mph during the chase. The suspect eventually stopped his vehicle at a gas station on Highway 1 in Bethune and surrendered to law enforcement. He was taken into custody very early Friday morning.
SLED’s crime scene unit was called to process the crime scene. Shortly after 1:00 am, we were notified that the victim did not survive her injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Sheriff Lee Boan says, “Two young children had their lives changed forever tonight due to a horrible decision by someone they looked to as a protector, their father. These precious, innocent children lost both of their parents tonight for no good reason. Please keep this family in your thoughts and prayers.”
The sheriff’s office says 51 year old LaQuincy Pollard of Cassatt is the suspect. He will be charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, failure to stop for blue lights and other offenses.
